How platinum, palladium and rhodium affect your quote

Best Scrap Converter Prices · United States seller guide

The ceramic channels support the converter’s catalytic coating.

The metal market matters, but it is only part of a converter's value. Identification, recoverable material, condition and the practical sale terms all help turn a market reference into an individual offer.

Selling from the United States? Start with photos and source details for eligibility review. An account or request is not approval to sell or ship. Wait for SMASH to confirm the applicable route and receiving instructions.

Three precious metals, many different converters

Platinum, palladium and rhodium are valuable metals used in automotive emission-control catalysts. The type and amount of recoverable material vary between converter designs. That is why the same general metal market can support very different values for two converters.

Identification is the first practical question. Whole-unit photographs, readable markings, vehicle information and an honest condition description help us review what is being offered. A converter's weight or its exterior shape alone does not establish the quantity of precious metal it contains, and a higher value quoted for another model is not a reliable price for yours.

A market reference is not a seller offer

Market figures describe a metal, a currency, a unit and an observation time. They provide useful context, but they are different from the amount offered for a particular converter or lot. A whole converter includes its substrate and shell; it is not a bar of refined platinum, palladium or rhodium.

Website market figures provide reference observations that may update periodically. Check the currency, unit and observation date, then request an offer for your specific converter. Your individual quote brings the market context together with the material review and agreed terms.

The material and its condition still matter

We review identification, condition and current precious-metal markets when preparing an individual offer. Missing internal material, unclear markings or a mismatch between the description and photographs can change what information is needed before the material can be valued. Good photographs reduce uncertainty; they do not create a guaranteed metal content.

Be clear about the quantity and whether the proposed amount covers one converter or a complete lot. When several images show the same item, say so. Keeping the lot well described helps everyone compare the same material instead of multiplying a price by an unverified number of units.

Read the total amount and practical terms together

The individual offer brings the material review together with the agreed commercial arrangement. Check the amount, currency, quantity and expiry. Review what is included in the shipping arrangement and the receiving and inspection conditions. These details matter more to your decision than a general headline metal price.

A reference shown in one currency is not automatically a payable offer in another. Likewise, a market unit is not the weight basis of your sale unless the agreement says it is. Do not assume that postage, processing or other costs will be handled a particular way; use the actual offer and confirmed instructions.

The accepted offer keeps the sale clear

A quote request starts a review. It does not complete a sale or authorize shipment. When an offer is available, read its purchase and inspection terms before accepting, and ask for clarification if the lot description or the shipping arrangement is unclear.

After acceptance, the relevant offer and its terms remain the reference for the transaction. A website ticker moving later is not, by itself, a new agreement. Receipt, inspection and payment approval are recorded against the applicable sale so the next step relates to the material and terms actually agreed.

Start with useful evidence

To request an individual review, send clear photographs, identifying details, quantity and your location through the converter form or seller account. Tell us what you know and what remains uncertain. That gives us a useful starting point for a conversation about your material rather than an unsupported estimate based on a general chart.

Questions sellers ask

Can I multiply the metal ticker price by my converter's weight?

No. The complete converter is not pure precious metal. Its identification, recoverable content and agreed commercial terms must be considered.

Does a quote for a similar-looking converter apply to mine?

Not necessarily. Similar shells can have different identification, contents or condition. Submit the actual material for an individual review.

Does a changing market ticker automatically change an accepted offer?

No. Read the accepted offer's expiry, inspection and pricing conditions. A public reference figure is not a replacement agreement for your sale.
